Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

While I am a savory gal, I will never turn down a chocolate chip cookie. I love them all — the crispy ones, chewy ones, cakey ones, you name it! The more chocolatey and buttery, the better. Walnuts? But of course! There are so many ways to enjoy chocolate chip cookies. They are a shareable treat that are good year round, but taste extra delicious dunked in a cup of milk on a cozy winter evening.

Sometimes life forces you to make tough dessert decisions, like having to decide between cookie or cake. When that happens, I turn to my delectable Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie. The edges are lightly browned & crispy, and the center is warm & gooey. You can slice it up just like a cake and top it off with a heaping scoop of your favorite ice cream. This a sweet crowd pleaser you will want to make over & over again!

3/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs, room temperature
1 tbsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup walnuts, chopped
Ice cream

In a small saucepan, melt butter on low heat until it is completely melted. Stir in granulated sugar and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Once the sugar-butter mixture has cooled, transfer to a large mixing bowl. Add in vanilla and eggs, and whisk until smooth.

In a separate mixing bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir dry ingredients in the sugar-butter mixture just until smooth. Add in chocolate chips and walnuts, and stir just until the ingredients are combined without overmixing.

Add the cookie dough to a 10″-12″ cast iron skillet, and smooth the dough so it is evenly distributed. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. The inside of the cookie should be a little gooey.

Top the cookie with a scoop of ice cream and enjoy.
